YouTube Tag Extractor

Extract the hidden tags from any YouTube video.

What are YouTube tags?

YouTube tags are optional keywords a creator adds in YouTube Studio to describe a video. They are hidden from viewers, but a tag extractor reads them from the video's public data so you can see which keywords any video uses.

How much do tags matter?

YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery today; the title, thumbnail, description and viewer behaviour (click-through rate and watch time) matter far more. Tags are mainly useful for common misspellings of your topic or brand, and they reveal how successful creators think about their keywords.

How to use extracted tags

  1. Study top videos in your niche. Recurring tags across several high-performing videos point to the core keywords of the topic.
  2. Find title ideas. Long-tail tags often mirror real searches — they make good title angles and description phrases.
  3. Do not copy blindly. Tags should describe your video. Irrelevant tags break YouTube's spam policy on misleading metadata.

Tag rules

  • The total of all tags is limited to 500 characters (the counter shows how much a video uses).
  • Put your most important keyword first.
  • Mix broad ("coffee"), specific ("cold brew coffee") and long-tail ("how to make cold brew at home") tags.
  • 5–15 relevant tags is plenty.

Why a video shows no tags

Many creators simply do not add tags. If the result is empty, the video has none — it is not an error.

Generate fresh tags for your own video with the YouTube Tag Generator, and extract hashtags (which are visible to viewers) with the YouTube Hashtag Extractor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see the tags of a YouTube video?

Paste the video URL or ID into the extractor. It reads the video's public metadata and lists every tag with a character count.

Do YouTube tags still help with SEO?

Only a little. YouTube says tags have a minimal role; titles, thumbnails, descriptions and watch time matter much more.

Is it okay to copy another video's tags?

Use them for research, but only add tags that genuinely describe your own video. Misleading tags violate YouTube's policies.

What is the YouTube tag limit?

All tags together can use up to 500 characters.

Why are no tags found?

The creator did not add any. Many videos have no tags at all.
