Why look up an IP?
- Check a migration: after moving hosts, confirm the domain points to the new server.
- Find the host or CDN: the reverse-DNS name often reveals the provider (for example
…amazonaws.com). - Firewall and allow-lists: get the IP to whitelist a service.
- Troubleshooting: compare what we resolve with what your computer resolves to spot DNS caching problems.
Multiple IPs
Large sites return several addresses for load balancing and redundancy. Sites behind CDNs such as Cloudflare return the CDN's edge IPs, not the origin server — that is intentional and protects the origin.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 addresses look like 93.184.216.34; IPv6 like 2606:2800:220:1::248. Modern sites should publish both; visitors on IPv6-only mobile networks then connect directly.
Shared hosting
One IP often hosts hundreds of sites. Sharing an IP has no effect on SEO — Google does not penalise sites for their neighbours.
For network owner and location, use the Hosting Checker; for all DNS records, the DNS Records Checker.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the IP address of a domain?
Enter the domain. The tool resolves its A (IPv4) and AAAA (IPv6) records and shows each address with its reverse DNS name.
Why does a website have several IP addresses?
Big sites use multiple servers or a CDN for speed and redundancy, so DNS returns several addresses.
Why do I see a Cloudflare IP?
The site uses Cloudflare as a proxy and CDN. The real server IP is hidden behind it on purpose.
Does sharing an IP address hurt SEO?
No. Shared hosting is normal, and Google does not penalise a site because of other sites on the same IP.
