How much do YouTubers earn per 1,000 views?

YouTube ad income is usually estimated with RPM (revenue per 1,000 views) after YouTube's share. RPMs commonly range from about $0.50 to $4 for many channels and higher in finance, tech and business niches, so earnings = daily views ÷ 1,000 × RPM.

CPM vs RPM

  • CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions — before YouTube's share and only counting monetised views.
  • RPM is what the creator actually earns per 1,000 total views, after YouTube's share (creators keep 55 % of long-form ad revenue). RPM is the right number for estimates.

What drives RPM

  1. Niche — personal finance, software, business and education attract high-paying advertisers.
  2. Audience country — viewers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Northern Europe earn much more than many other regions.
  3. Video length — videos over 8 minutes can include mid-roll ads.
  4. Season — ad prices peak in Q4 and drop in January.
  5. Shorts vs long-form — Shorts revenue is pooled and RPMs are usually much lower.

Beyond ads

Many creators earn more from sponsorships, affiliate links, memberships, Super Thanks and their own products than from AdSense. To join the YouTube Partner Program for ads you need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in a year, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.

Treat it as an estimate

Public tools cannot see a channel's real RPM. Use a range (low and high RPM) as this calculator does. Get a channel's real view numbers from YouTube Channel Statistics; for website ads, try the AdSense Calculator.
